Supported employment is one of many ways of assisting persons with disabilities in gaining and maintaining employment.

The Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) partners with over 60 employment services organizations such as Sugar Plum Bakery in providing job development, placement and training and long term follow along.

Sugar Plum Bakery is an entrepreneurial model where in supported employees work along with managers and others creating an integrated work setting.

Sugar Plum Bakery job coaches collaborate with DARS counselors  to offer Individual Supported Employment Services.  A single employee is placed in an integrated work setting in the community. The employee is employed by the employer.  On-going follow- along services are required. Individual Supported Employment is the most widely used Supported Employment model. Advantages are flexibility and maximum integration.
